Volkswagen Beetle. Jet engine. Well, why not?

Date July 26, 2006

A gentleman with a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Stanford has created a street-legal Beetle with a jet engine stuffed in the back.

VW Beetle with jet engine

Best line from his erudite and fascinating discussion of this subject:

Jet keeps sucking the rose out of the bud vase on the dash!

And just wait till you see what he wants to do to his wife’s motor scooter.

The best part is reading the care and expertise applied to this.

I read a while ago about someone who fitted a Rolls-Royce engine to a car - possibly an old Rolls-Royce, but I’m not sure.

The engine originally came from a Spitfire, and the bonnet/hood had to be lengthened quite a bit to accommodate it… this was probably in the 1970s, so I don’t know if it would ever have made it onto the Web.
