{"id":1327,"date":"2008-08-22T18:41:51","date_gmt":"2008-08-22T17:41:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dianeduane.com\/outofambit\/2008\/08\/22\/discworld-convention-unhappily-a-change-of-plans\/"},"modified":"2008-08-22T18:41:51","modified_gmt":"2008-08-22T17:41:51","slug":"discworld-convention-unhappily-a-change-of-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dianeduane.com\/outofambit\/2008\/08\/22\/discworld-convention-unhappily-a-change-of-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Discworld convention: unhappily, a change of plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I really hate to have to post this, but due to last-minute developments secondary to a current work\u00a0commitment, Peter and I will not be able to attend the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dwcon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Discworld Convention <\/a>in Birmingham this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>We got a sense around midweek that a time-sensitive project I\u2019m working on \u2014 one which\u00a0I\u2019d been attempting to ensure would not need\u00a0attention this week and weekend \u2014\u00a0was indeed going to require that very thing.\u00a0Despite numerous attempts to defuse this problem,\u00a0over the course of today\u00a0it became plain that\u00a0there was no way I would be able to\u00a0get the necessary work done in time while also on the road \/ away from home. The phrase \u201ccircumstances beyond my control\u201d exactly describes the situation\u2026 not that this\u00a0makes me any happier.<\/p>\n<p>Peter and I have always loved doing the writers\u2019 workshop at DWCon, and it breaks us up that we won\u2019t be able to do it this year. (Additionally, I was really looking forward to my first visit in more than twenty years to the hotel where Peter and I fell in love.) We both want to apologize to the people we were looking forward to working with.<\/p>\n<p>As for the many friends we were seriously looking forward to seeing\u2026 guys, we\u2019ll really miss hanging out with you.
