It&#8217;s going to be hectic.  A few days in NY, to dump the jetlag and see our agent and the editors, with a signing at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.booksofwonder.com\/\">Books of Wonder<\/a> thrown in for good measure: the 4th of July weekend in Minneapolis, at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.convergence-con.org\/\">ConVergence:<\/a>  then five days in LA, pitching the &#8220;Young Wizards&#8221; books to various TV and film people, since the present deal with a major network seems to be falling apart.  (muttergrumble)  Then back to NY for a last day or so of stocking up on things we like to have around that can&#8217;t be easily obtained in Ireland (Dial liquid soap&#8230;Wise potato chips&#8230;)  And then home to the new kitten.<\/p>\n<p>Despite having this big trip looming, with the prospect of having to pitch to producers live rather on paper &#8212; something I hate &#8212; my main concerns right this minute are as follows:<\/p>\n<p>(a) How soon will this @#$%^^ cold go away?  (Even NeoCitran, the magic Swiss cold drug, doesn&#8217;t seem to be working on this as fast as it should.)<\/p>\n<p>(b) The fishpond out in the front is leaking &#8212; must speak to the people watching the house to make sure the water level doesn&#8217;t drop too low&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>(c) the plants in the rockery are being eaten alive by slugs;  this has been a terribly wet start-of-summer&#8230;I need more slug pellets.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a slug haiku:<\/p>\n<p>Small sluggy cousins,<br \/>\nI have just two words for you:<br \/>\nmetaldehyde!  Heh.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;I hate those things almost as much as I hate verbal pitches.
