From my point of view, this is one of the few perks an author gets that\u2019s worth anything. A month before pub date\u2026 I get mine first.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s real now.<\/i> The sale doesn\u2019t matter (well, okay, it matters, but only as the setup for this<\/i>): the rewrites don\u2019t matter, the first pass pages don\u2019t matter, the ARCs don\u2019t matter. Only when one of these arrives is the book really real for me. Only when the whole finished thing can be picked up and held in the hands does it become honestly, genuinely, really-and-truly a book. <\/i><\/p>\n

Now<\/i> I open that bottle of champagne that\u2019s been lurking in the fridge since New Year\u2019s. It took a while, but here’s Games Wizards Play,<\/em> finally. Real.<\/em><\/p>\n
