{"id":4158,"date":"2016-05-21T15:34:56","date_gmt":"2016-05-21T15:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dianeduane.com\/outofambit\/?p=4158"},"modified":"2016-07-31T09:19:13","modified_gmt":"2016-07-31T09:19:13","slug":"mark-reads-crowd-original-working-map-deep-wizardry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dianeduane.com\/outofambit\/2016\/05\/21\/mark-reads-crowd-original-working-map-deep-wizardry\/","title":{"rendered":"For the &#8220;Mark Reads&#8221; crowd: the original working map for DEEP WIZARDRY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since the progress of things at <a href=\"http:\/\/markreads.net\/reviews\/\">Mark Reads<\/a> has now taken us well past the point where this material is spoilery, I thought people might like to see a copy of my working map for <i><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Deep Wizardry\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deep_Wizardry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Deep Wizardry<\/a><\/i>, from which the map appearing in the original book was derived.<\/p>\n<p>Information about this area was hard to come by in the early 1980s, and it was just as well that I was then often working on the book out of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypl.org\/about\/locations\/schwarzman\/research-study-rooms\">Frederick Lewis Allen (writers&#8217;) room<\/a> in the main branch of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"New York Public Library\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_Public_Library\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">New York Public Library<\/a>, as its stacks were one of the few places where it was possible to lay hands on the research data from the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Woods_Hole_Oceanographic_Institution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute<\/a> that was then laying bare the geography of the area around the Sohm Abyssal Plain. No existing map combined all the data I needed, so I wound up drawing this myself and then later adapting it in a slightly different format for the hardcover.<\/p>\n<p>The full-sized map is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dianeduane.com\/images\/Deep_Wizardry_Original_Hudson_Canyon_Map.jpg\">here<\/a> if you want to look at it in more detail.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"border-radius: 2px;
