{"id":574,"date":"2005-02-24T11:45:00","date_gmt":"2005-02-24T18:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dianeduane.com\/outofambit\/?p=574"},"modified":"2005-02-24T11:45:00","modified_gmt":"2005-02-24T18:45:00","slug":"things-seen-on-the-road-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dianeduane.com\/outofambit\/2005\/02\/24\/things-seen-on-the-road-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Things seen on the road (1)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week saw the 2005 version of what&#8217;s become a traditional midwinter trip:  the run over to Switzerland for Fasnacht, the Swiss version of Mardi Gras.<\/p>\n<p>On our way to our preferred Fasnacht (the one in Basel:  see <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.fasnacht.ch\/?pm_1=21&amp;mid=21\">Fasnacht.ch<\/a> for details), <img SRC=\"http:\/\/www.owlsprings.com\/img\/ButterflyForBlog.jpg\" ALT=\"Butterfly-Swan Remix\" ALIGN=\"RIGHT\">we passed briefly through Z&uuml;rich to pick up our agent, Don, and his lady-friend, Lisa, who were coming over to experience Fasnacht for the first time. While wandering the streets we passed by the <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.bongenie-grieder.ch\/html\/en\/indexflash.php\">Grieder<\/a> clothing store, which is presently undergoing renovations.  Surrounding the work area was a big scaffolding covered with a poster that said, &#8220;We&#8217;re going through some changes&#8221;&#8230;and the slugline was accompanied by a number of images of wonderfully &#8220;remixed&#8221; animals.  It was a definite stop-and-stare moment.  Fortunately Peter insisted on getting pictures then and there:  when we came back later in the week, the poster was gone.<\/p>\n<p>You can see more of these pictures as a Flickr photoset <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/59149242@N00\/sets\/134862\/\">here<\/a> (or go down to the Flickr &#8220;zeitgeist&#8221; panel in the middle column and click on one as it comes up).
