Oh dear (or, "15 Minutes of Fame" goes horribly wrong)

“Guy Goma became an overnight sensation … when he was mistaken by a BBC News 24 producer for Guy Kewney, who was supposed to be interviewed about a court case involving Apple Computer and the Beatles Apple Corps Ltd,” reports UPI.

It was wonderfully entertaining, but who thought about the UK’s Immigration Service, which seems to make a habit of looking up the credentials of people who appear on TV. According to UPI, Goma overstayed his tourist visa and may now be deported….

I read this stroy a few weeks ago and then the story changed, first of all he was a cabby and now he was going for an interview at the BBC and now this! Cant even the BBC get their stoires right?

“Have I Got News For You” commented on the story, including the fact that he was said to be a cabby and then at the BBC to have an interview for an IT job there.

When someone asked if he was Guy something, and there for an interview, he said yes…

So, that’s what the Immigration Service does, watches TV and waits for people they don’t recognise. With the news, HIGNFY and the Jonathan Ross show, they had three chances to notice. Now they just have to hope all the criminals they forgot to deport turn up on TV… and their own cleaners…
