(I’m @dianeduane@mastodon.social over there.)
…Actually I’ve had an account there since spring of last year, with an eye to a time when the kinds of things might start happening to Twitter that are, uh, happening now. (Sometimes it’s annoying to be correct about predictions…) But it’s going to start getting much heavier use now.
With that in mind: if I’ve got this right, here’s an invite to Mastodon for you, so that if you’re interested, you can climb on board and get a sense of what’s going on there. (Please note that this link deactivates on 21 Nov 2022.) …A lot of the things I normally do on Twitter are very shortly going to be moving over to the Mastodon side.
If you’re interested in finding out more about Mastodon before jumping into it, here’s a FAQ page from their own blog. …Or here’s a post about it from Danielle Navarro, covering the subject from the data science angle. (And also, one at Wired on how to find your Twitter friends on Mastodon.)
Anyway: onward!
ETA for those looking to choose the best instance to operate from: I’m only a newbie at this, so don’t take any of this as received wisdom. But when I signed up in ‘21, I went for the one that seemed most broad-based at the time, as a good place to start. Since then I note that (for example) @neil-gaiman is there too: so the choice seems, on the face of it, to have been sound. Later on, it seems from the docs, one can change instances if they like. We’ll see how that goes.
